I've been thinking about religion more and more often.

[There's the sound of people walking by and talking]I know I haven't been on the Network very often lately. I suppose that's because I've been distracted, not that I've been busy. Maybe I want to be busy, though, and so I try and keep distracted, although I know that the human brain doesn't ( Read more... )

Religion is a tool.

I have no doubt it provides comfort for those that truly believe, but it also provides control to the ones that dictate what the religion is, or how it is celebrated.

And you don't like that authority?

Religion is meaningless. From where I come from, we have enough supernatural creatures flying around to disprove every scribble in that inane book by humans.

I don't understand how one cancels out the other.

I don't either. Touko does. Not that I really spend time listening to her.

But apparently my eyes disproves most religions and beliefs. Well, in my world, at least.

[ Which really isn't much different than the other person's. ]

I think the point of religion is in believing what you can't see.

It does make you wonder why they're called deities, if no one worships them.

All I can say for sure is that I've gotten less religious since I've been here. Not that I was very religious to begin with, but... Well, under the circumstances, it doesn't have much of an effect on me.

Does a god need worshippers to be a god?

Maybe not, but I can't think of any that was called a god that was never worshiped. I do think the word sort of implies it. Maybe they were once, and we just don't know about it.

Yes, but how do you feel about science?

Necessary to understand, at the very least, but not particularly popular with religious individuals, wouldn't you think?

I can't see why it shouldn't be. Both murky subjects, far too incomprehensible in their broadest spectrums to render an educated decision whether or not to believe in their claims very hard to make. A lot in common, religion and science.

I think it would take a philosopher to find the common thread and not get offended by it.
