I'm not around; I'm probably somewhere nearby but didn't hear the phone ring, so I'll call you back when I manage to get the time. I'm still figuring out this texting stuff, so replies tend to be slow, sorry. If it's an emergency, keep calling, I'll manage to find my phone eventually! Although if it's an emergency, there are probably better people ( Read more... )

[Early off of work, and he's feeling like a rolling stone. What to do in the City? Larry slows as he starts to pass a theatre. When was the last time he saw a show, a real one in a theatre? Well, why the hell not. Since he's here, he'll slip on in. The marquee is filled with old and new titles. You can't go wrong with Casablanca. It's a classic. Predictable too. It'll work. Larry checks his watch, it'll be three soon. He puts down a coin and gets his ticket.

The place is tiny. Why wouldn't it be between all the buildings? The screen illuminates the theatre, is there anyone in here? Just his luck. Any seat then, anywhere at all.

The chair squeaks as he sits down and even more when he puts up his feet. May as well get a smoke in here too.]

[Kenny doesn't work today, and there's only so much peoplewatching that he can do before he gets bored. Going to the theatre seems like a good idea, and he buys a ticket for Casablanca because it's a classic, even for him.

This place is tiny, and there's only one guy in there, smoking. Kenny doesn't feel bad, then, pulling out a cigarette of his own and making his way over to the seats to sit a couple of places away. He gives the older guy a smile.]

Got a light?

[The voice is unexpected that's for sure. I guess there is someone else here. Larry licks his lips before setting a Chesterfield between them.]

Sure.

[His lighter comes on out. There's our man Bogey having a smoke of his own beyond them. He waits til the other movie watcher is sitting before striking the lighter, nice guy he is he holds it up to the cigarette.]

[Kenny leans over and accepts the light gratefully, taking a drag]

Thanks.

[He blows out the smoke and looks the man over from the corner of his eye. Handsome, alone, a smoker, and older. It's nice to see someone besides Neil and Todd watch a movie like this one.]

Ocean's 11 or Robin and the 7 Hoods?

This is a very odd question.

I know. Do you have an answer though? I think the second one is a little after you now that I think about it.

Well. The second one, then.

[Kenny is waiting; not because Larry is late but because he's early, waiting near the marquee, smoking a cigarette and pulling his coat close around him. It's definitely late fall now, it's definitely cold. It's funny that last week it was cold but still warm enough for a dip in the ocean.

Well, whatever. He takes a drag of his cigarette and waits]

[And Larry comes along. It is definitely colder, could be the breeze coming off the shore he frolicked in. Is it strange that he still finds it kind of hard to believe he did that? It's still a trip to think that he's going to see that face again. And he's doing it willingly.

He'd like to see those blue eyes again. There's the same place, painted differently with the early evening light. The man is recognizable in an instant. Larry waits until he knows he's in earshot to greet him with a hello.]

[Kenny's eyes flick over, and there he is. The nameless encounter. Honestly Kenny hadn't anticipated hearing from him again - he didn't even know the guy's name but it doesn't bother him at all. He straightens up and smiles casually.]

Hi. Good week?

Eventful.

[It isn't his intention to be completely enigmatic. Though the less that Kenny knows about the company he keeps or the business he does, the safer he will be. Somehow leaving out the details feels like some kind of road of honesty. He's not lying, just not telling the whole story.]

A guy dropped into town, I had to make arrangements.

[And then there's Freddy. Well. No, there isn't Freddy. Why does he keep thinking like that at all? Though that spontaneous spark keeps igniting. So damn strange.

The lines of Kenny's mouth curling upward though are just what he needs to see.]

Yourself?

[Three forty-five. Larry is leaning against a lamppost intent on finishing his cigarette. A little early, but what the hell. It's not a bad neighborhood Kenny has for himself. And times like this it never hurts to stop and smell the roses so to speak--make observations, take stock of what should and shouldn't be there. Maybe to compensate for being out of touch. Though let's not fuck with ourselves, the chances of Kenny getting in as much shit as Freddy is very low.

Then again, isn't Larry something of trouble too?

Anyway, he waits. The other man is calling the shots. This could be interesting.]

[Kenny heads down just a few minutes before four, winding a long scarf around his neck. It's cold, and while he doesn't mind being cold, he also dresses for it - maybe overdresses, considering he's not very used to it.

He spots the older man and smiles, and heads over]

Were you waiting long?

[The old man smiles too and flicks away his cigarette. He's got a coat, the collar is turned up. A scarf? Really? Okay, well, California never got too, too frosty for his taste. After being in the north, he figured that his days of shuffling in snow was over. Maybe not. Tis the season right? Looks like someone is putting up lights nearby.]

Nah. Not really.

[He falls into step next to him, close enough to touch but not touching, and starts walking slowly]

Good, I would rather you keep me waiting than the other way around.
