four little ducks

Mar 30, 2005 22:49

four little ducks went town one day
left their house to go out and play
they soon forgot those ducks who stayed
over the hills and far away
mother duck said quack quack quack quack
go ahead and don't look back
  maybe someday we'll meet again
but none of the little ducks could come back.

Such fine words she did weave,
with so many a meaning,
poetic flow so well harnessed,
'tis been a while since my first.

From the North, the fair lady comes,
Ever graceful in her stride,
The Light so brilliant, it blinds
No words can I draw, but a smile I give.

Yay, you recognized it? It's a nursery rhyme. I modified some words, and added the indented lines.

I'm assuming the indents are not supposed to come out as "& n b s p" ? XD

whoah! this brings back memories!
five little ducks went out to play
over the hills and far away
when mother duck said quack quack quack
only four little ducks came back
AND the most important part when you get down to 1 duck, the last line is and five little ducks came running back! (its a happy ending)
and when you go over the hills and far away, you have to do the hand gestures, and for quack quack quack you put your hands together to make a duck bill and go "quack quack quack"
:D.
But your poem is nice too, just a little cynical and glum. Ok, very cynical and glum. Maybe thats why its not a nursery rhyme. Imagine if you gave that to a little four year old. He'd start crying.
(BTW! submit that to bulldog. its better than most of the poems we print (mostly cuz i dont understand any of the poems we print)

Wow, I never realized my version was wrong... lol. I only knew this nursery rhyme because my mum used to sing it to me (which would explain the different words, cuz her English wasn't exactly the greatest, y'know? ^^;) But thanks -- I finally know the correct lyrics now. heh~

Oh, and btw, I always thought that it ended with one duck going out, blahblah, "but none of those little ducks came back", so that's probably why I still find it depressing. XD And sorry, but I don't plan on ever publishing this because I wrote it for myself, and I'm most likely the only one who understands it, so there's no point, really. ^^;
