Bombing Iran

Jul 14, 2008 09:03

So I was going to write something pithy about the Storming of the Bastille which happened this day in 1789. Instead, I'll point to this very interesting discussion about Bombing Iran. You should go read the whole thing.

The author went hiking with an Iranian colleague and her college-aged son over the weekend. His colleague's father was an official under the Shah, and was forced into retirement. The family splits a lot of time between the US and Iran, and are ethnic minorities in that country. In short, they are no fans of the current regime.

Yet they are adamantly opposed to a US attack on their country. This is no surprise to me. I am no fan of the Bush Administration, but if some damn furriner decided to "liberate" me from him, or "defang" the US, I'd be pissed. In short, as I've said before, the quickest way to get Iranians to rally 'round the flag would be to attack them. Perhaps that's why Iran is frequently provocative - it would help their domestic politics if we attacked.
