Well, I was wrong. And I don't mind.
Just over a month ago, I wrote:I haven't yet read Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Book the 13th: The End. That said, I want to post a prediction: I believe that, at some level, Lemony Snicket will be surprised at how the story ended.
I've finished the book. I guessed wrong. But that's OK.
I read the end, then went back a few pages and re-read the end, out loud. That ending manages to be surprising (to the reader), touching, and funny in the space of only a few pages. I started to tear up at one thing; I soon laughed out loud at a related thing; and both responses were totally appropriate.
Wow.
