for Lennox [dated to Aug. 22nd]

It was getting late before Chris finally made his way back to the hut. Too late and he already knew Lennox would either be worried or angry or a fun combination of both. But, after his talk with Mike, after all the emotions it'd sparked in him, he'd needed a couple hours to walk around and calm the hell down. He'd spent most of that on the beach ( Read more... )

Truthfully, Lennox had been asleep when Chris neared the hut, but it had been a light, uncomfortable sleep, worried that Chris had disappeared or something else. And the shape Lennox was in, he couldn't go looking for him, so he'd stripped down and climbed into bed to try and get some sleep before he went and found Eddie and Neil and made them look for him.

When the branch crunched outside, Hal yipped in her sleep, which woke Lennox up and he sat up in the bed, blinking at the door. Maybe he should have felt guilty about falling asleep while Chris was all absent, but he figured Chris would act guilty enough for the both of them. Besides, he was sick. That had to be a get out of jail free card for at least a month.

"Hey," he said, his voice low as he blinked at Chris in the dark. "Where've you been?"

"Out," Chris replied because it was the simplest answer and also honest. It wouldn't be enough, though, he knew that.

Silently, he wandered to a dark corner and toed his shoes off, hands tugging at his shirt at the same time, pulling it up and over before dropping it down to the ground. His jeans still on, he wandered over to the bed and sat down, feeling the heat from Lennox's body close to his.

"I know it's late, I'm sorry." Frowning still, he lifted a hand and pressed it to Lennox's forehead. "How are you feeling?"

A couple months ago Lennox wouldn't have accepted that answer, it would've upset him, he would've thought that Chris was trying to hide something from him, but now that thought didn't even occur to him. He squinted up at Chris in the dark and then almost quirked a smile when he felt Chris's hand resting against his forehead.

"What are you, my mother?" he asked in a soft, teasing voice, then flopped back down onto the bed again. "I feel okay, no worse than before." No better either, but he figured that wouldn't come for another week or so.

Chris wasn't sure he really liked that answer, but figured it was the best he could expect at the moment. It was just going to take time and he'd have to just be happy with the fact that Lennox hadn't come back missing an arm or something. Bronchitis, at least, he could get over.

"You need anything?" he asked, ignoring the other comment. "Water or something?" It wouldn't be too long a walk up to the Compound, after all, and it'd give him some more time to think. Not that he really needed to think anymore.
