"Yeah, but it's fun to pretend," Lennox decided, fishing into his pocket with two fingers and tugging his lighter free. Offering it to Chris with a flourish, he smiled widely, still trying on that 'innocent' bullshit as they headed toward the Hamlet. "I like you when you're stoned. I like you when you're sober, too."

"And you like me when I'm a beetle," Chris replied, grinning, the words a little muffled around the joint as he lit the tip and then quickly pocketed the lighter.

He sucked in a slow hit as they walked, holding it deep in his lungs for a long moment and then tipping his head back to exhale. As always, it was a slow, comfortable burn and he let his eyes slip shut for a moment as he imagined the pot seeping into his blood.

"That's what I told you, isn't it?" Lennox asked, reaching over when Chris snatched his lighter, digging his fingers impatiently into his pocket to take it back. One of these days the lighter was going to die and they would have to resort to using a fucking bonfire to light their joints, he realized.

"That's what I told you and I meant it," he continued as they walked, finally fighting the lighter free from Chris's pocket. "Even if you do steal my fucking lighter."

Giving a quick laugh, Chris made no move to keep Lennox from digging into his pocket, though he did have to stop walking, for fear of tripping over Lennox and his own feet. He rested his free hand on Lennox's upper arm as Lennox fished the lighter out, grinning broadly.

"Only borrowing it," he said and then tucked the joint between his lips again. "'sides," he said, words muffled, "married now. What's yours is 'ine, 'remem'er?"
