Ceremony!

They'd taken the opportunity to sleep-in somewhat, only rousing for a moment to let Hal out before slipping under the covers for a few more hours, though only some of that time was actually spent sleeping. Finally, after Chris had gotten tired of the sound of his own stomach rumbling, they'd dragged themselves out and got dressed, Lennox ( Read more... )

Even though they were already married, Lennox had to admit that having the ceremony kind of felt like they were married again. He didn't want to say 'married for real' 'cause they'd definitely been married since they'd decided to do it the first time.

Still, the ceremony was pretty great, even if it hadn't been the most traditional ceremony that they could've had. There'd been vows and an exchange of a ring and now there was food, which Lennox was making a beeline for right this moment.

"Hey," Chris said, sneaking up behind Lennox after he'd spent some time talking to other people, arms wrapping around him as he rested his chin on Lennox's shoulder. There weren't any drinks or food, no gift table or anything like that, just a collection of their closest friends and Chris honestly couldn't think of a better way they could've done it. Even if was a little bit unorthodox.

"So, I guess this is it," he said, turning his head to press a light kiss to Lennox's neck. "Now Eddie can't be irritated with us anymore."

"No way. Emmy was a flower girl, just like we wanted, it was pretty fucking great," Lennox said cheerfully in agreement, his arms wrapping around Chris's as he leaned back against him. It wasn't anything new, being married or touching Chris like this, but it was different in a way. He could feel the weight of Peggy's ring resting against his chest, just under his shirt and that was certainly different.

Giving a low chuckle, Chris nodded, his arms tightening around Lennox for just a moment as he watched their small group of friends intermingle with each other.

"Was pretty perfect," he murmured quietly after a moment, rocking Lennox very slowly and very gently in his arms, like they were swaying to a song that only they could hear. "Even if my arm still hurts like a sonofabitch."

If asked, Lily was going to blame it all on hormones. She was going to blame the tears on hormones, because they definately weren't coming from watching her friends getting married. And they weren't coming from her little girl as a flower girl. She was just a big hormonal mess.

She blew her nose noisily and smoothed her hand over her hip in her red dress.
It was just all so nice.

"Hey," Chris said quietly as he walked up to Lily, head tilted to one side in concern and mild amusement. "You alright there, Lil'? Second time in just a couple days that I've seen you crying."

"I'm just a massive mess this week. What can I say?" Lily smiled and stretched up on her tiptoes ti kiss his cheek. "Congratulations, honey. Again."

Chris smiled at the kiss, his hand lightly resting on Emmy's waist as he felt a light flush of heat on his cheeks. It wasn't really from embarrassment, though; Chris couldn't find it in himself to be embarrassed about this.

"Yeah, little redundant, eh?" he said, though he was grinning. "Blame your husband."

It doesn't really feel like an Occasion. He's not sure how he'd put it into words, but it doesn't really feel like any wedding he's ever been to. The closest it gets to is Danny and Clay's, the same feeling of it close and sweet and simple with the words being said at the center of everything.

The words probably do a lot to set it apart, too.

If he ever gets married--which he still can't see himself doing--he thinks maybe he'd like it to be something like this.

With a somewhat shy smirk curving his lips, Chris walked up to Mike later, one hand stuffed in his pocket, the other linked with Lennox's.

"Well," he said rather casually as he gave Lennox's hand a squeeze, "think we figured out a way for you to hurt me that Jim won't beat you up over." His voice is teasing, but with a hint of something else beneath it. Grateful, likely, but quietly so.

"Hardee fucking hah, assholes," Lennox retorted with a snort of laughter, rolling his eyes a little bit, although it was obviously good natured. "This better not become some kind of habit either. Last thing I need is a husband so covered in burns that he's utterly useless to me."

He was grinning, though, at them both. At Mike and then back at Chris and then at Mike again.

"You said yes," Mike points out. "I was just throwing it out there. He didn't have to say yes." He hadn't expected him to say yes, and it had been more than a little bit of a shock when he had. And now what he feels, primarily, is pride.

And he's not sure how to feel about that.

"You like it, though?" he asks Lennox, half grinning. "I mean, you haven't hit me or anything yet, so..."

Eostre had flowers in her hair and a baby on each hip and she was glad not to be officiating, frankly. That sort of thing always made her very nervous. She hefted Flo, ignored Mack trying to wriggle out of her arms and get down.

"Wasn't that beautiful, huh?" she murmured, kissing one baby's head the the other. "Wasn't that nice?"

"Looks like you've got your hands full. Here," Chris remarked as he headed over, arms already outstretched to pull the wiggling Mack free of her mother's grasp.

Pretending to give a heavy groan, he lifted Mack up, ignoring a dull pain in his shoulder from doing so. Tensing up from the day before had made him more sore than he'd have thought. "God, you're getting big," he said to little one.

"We're crawling now," said Eostre, with an arched eyebrow. "We're mobile. Well, Mack is. Flora hasn't deigned to join her yet. She's still just hanging out."

"Uh-oh," Chris replied, giving an exaggerated grimace of sympathy as Mack continued to wiggle. "Isn't it too soon for that? That seems soon."

Not that Chris had the fucking faintest idea, of course. He'd read parts of that book, but he couldn't remember what it'd said as far as time tables went, couldn't even remember when it said they started teething.

It was the first wedding Peter had ever attended, and he didn't understand it at all. There hadn't been anybody in a big veil or wearing a long train on the back of her dress, nevermind that they were both grown-up men. It's common knowledge that it's only girls that ever want to get married.

But he'd done his best not to fidget or yawn when they were talking as he stood next to Eostre, even if Flo had been trying to eat his hair. Now, he was wandering around, looking for something interesting to do. Thus far, he hadn't had any luck at all.

"Hey, Peter," Chris said, walking over to the boy, a smile curving his lips. "I'm glad you came. Even if it probably bored the hell out of you."

Chris remembered back when he was younger and one of his cousins had gotten married. They'd had to drive four hours to watch the ceremony and attend the reception and then drove four hours back again. The entire drive had been more entertaining than any part of the wedding had been, in Chris's opinion.

Peter gave him a wave. "It was pretty boring yeah," he agreed easily, for tact was something that he had not quite got a grip on.

But then he paused and asked curiously. "Why'd you even want to get married? You didn't get to wear a veil or have a bouquet or anything, that's the only reason girls get married."

With a sheepish sort of smile, Chris felt his face flush lightly and he shrugged, giving a quiet laugh.

"Well, I'd look pretty dumb in a veil, don't you think?" he asked, still grinning a little. "And, I always thought women wanted to get married for all the kitchen appliances and furniture and things."
