gift giving aside....leah99December 19 2006, 03:51:34 UTC
I'm a sucker for traditions. what makes you feel blah about the holiday is what I embrace. I love that once a year everything else drops away and I'm watching the same movies, eating the same food, hearing the same songs, seeing the same faces.... all the same as I have every year since I was a child. It's the closest I can come to time traveling!!!
all that beign said... for the first year (not counting years we were at the hospital) we will be skipping the big family gathering at my uncle's (mostly b/c of the years at the hospital w/o much consideration from the rest of the family). We're still going to see my grandmother but won't have to do the whole big party talking to family you hardly see anymore thing. I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Today's society is globalizing and moving away from the family/small town communities. Is this just a symptom of that? is it good or bad?

Glad you enjoy it.
I think the spirit behind the holiday is good and it's good that people can come together and enjoy it. It's just that I, personally, do not enjoy it a great deal.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: there is far too much pressure placed upon people to be caught up in the Christmas thing. It's just a day. One in 365 days. I feel the same way about birthdays, though. Heck, I'd forget mine if someone didn't give me a card or something.

There is too much pressure on these events. Christmas and birthdays. I prefer small gatherings of the people I care about rather than big events.
