Reflections on Rome, Note 3: The Imperial City

Our second full day in Rome was spent exploring the ruins of the Ancient City. We spent about an hour at the Coliseum, then moved on to the Palatine Hill (read: the White House) and the Roman Forum (the Mall) by way of the Arch of Constantine (no equivalent). The day ended with a trip to Santa Maria ad Martyres, the-church-that-was-the-Pantheon.

I actually kept doing the same thing myself. It finally helped when I connected it to the word "Palatial," as in "like a palace." I wonder if they are etymologically linked.
