Cassock wearers, do you have any comments on Nikita Borisov (http://nikitatailor.com/) as a tailor? I'm interested in him mainly because he seems to be one of the few that uses relatively basic sizes (height and basic neck size), rather than having each individual dimension of my body measured ( Read more... )

i used liturgix.com and had great success. if i remember correctly, the cassock came from bulgaria. it was well made and came in a timely fashion. they even sent me fabric swatches so that i could choose the fabric. but they wanted many measurements as well.

Thanks - I'm checking out their site. A friend of mine can do the measuring, so this is a good thing.

I initially read that as "Cossack wearers" and was trying to figure out what that could mean.

Istok has cassocks of good quality at reasonable prices. I got one last year and it arrived in just 2 weeks. OTOH, if you want a really good cassock, Leslie Shails in CT is the bomb. Pricey but beautiful!

I'm phasing out Russian Cassocks. On the rare occasion when I do wear one, I prefer Greek-style with an open collar. Otherwise, most of the time when the situation requires it, I wear a Riassa over a collarless clergy shirt.

Peace,
RKM

Father, bless!
It's good to know that Istok can be timely. I'll go and look back at them. I'd ideally like to stop borrowing a cassock before Pascha.

Kh. Krista West makes beautiful vestments as well. As for cassocks, she only does Greek style. IMHO, if God ever finds me worthy to receive the cassock, I would go with her. Kwvestments.com is her website.

They're quite good, but you definitely pay for them.

And therein lies the problem (and I'd like a Russian style cassock - fits in more with my church).

Get a Romanian-style one and straddle both worlds! :)

Interestingly, I've noticed a decided trend toward both Greek-style cassocks and exorassa in the OCA (including most bishops). Not sure why. (Russia is also one of the world's leading producers of Greek-style clerical robes.)

I've had a mixed experience with buying cassocks, which has resulted in a personal rule of never ordering from anyone who hasn't measured me themselves. I plan to head out to Holy Cross Hermitage sometime soon to order a new one-they do both Slavic and Greek varieties.

I am told that there have been severe delivery problems (in a timely manner) from nikitataylor.com here at seminary. Simeon highly recommends that you order a podraznik - NOT a riassa (riassa's are garments for deacon level and above in the OCA - Simeon) - from the Convent of St. Elizabeth (http://users.sisqtel.net/cse/apparel/clerical.html), as his worked nicely until he outgrew it (aka, I got fat - Simeon). As an added bonus (especially for Carolinans and Southerners in general), they make light-weight cassocks that will not turn you into a puddle of sweat unless you are standing in front of the AC the whole time you're vested ( ... )
