He should have gently tightened it about the young man's neck as he spoke. Not for long, mind you, but just long enough for the lesson to strike home, ;-)

this is the second time he's left stuff where people can get to it and had it walk. in his second semester there, he had $300 go missing from his pants when he left them hanging in his locker in the culinary students' locker room. i try very hard to love people, but i keep telling him that he just can't leave stuff lying around there, apparently. perhaps college kids just aren't wired to respect other people.

i was impressed with his calm, as related to me after the fact. i think i would have been more upset, myself. then again, he's a very big guy and he's scary enough when his face goes flat and he gets quiet, so he's probably put just enough into it to scare the kid and yet not end up having to talk to the security folks...
