I've avoided THE ARTIST not because it was silent (or black and white), but because it sounded far too precious and gimmicky for my taste. I'm still not completely convinced, but I might give it a try at some point in the future on your recommendation.

Lisa, THE ARTIST is neither precious nor gimmicky. It's simply a great movie.
