I started writing in 1999 and my goal was to get something accepted for publication by the end of 2000. I was surprised to have one of my first submissions accepted in late '99 by a new Australian magazine called Winedark Sea. It was to go into issue 2 but issue 1 was the only one that ever saw the light of day.

I did meet my goal otherwise, and the story intended for Winedark did appear elsewhere ultimately.
