He may know exactly which side it's on. I've done the same thing a number of times at Costco, because I know the hose will reach, and sometimes the lane that is shortest is on the wrong side.

He couldn't even get it to work.. he had to push it in so far.. so it was like he did go to the wrong one.

I often don't know because I have a rental car. And if I go to the nearest open spot the hose should reach. He's just parked too far to the left, he should be closer to the pump.
