Seeking the Happy Ending

There are many reasons to play roleplaying games. I imagine a lot of them revolve around hanging out with friends and having a good time, since in my experience groups rarely stick with one game system forever. A good GM should be able to work in the things his players need. While not every run may necessarily end in happy, he ought to be able to figure out that at least some of them should. On the other hand, he's got to know that's what you're looking for. Gritty doesn't necessarily preclude happy-- take a look at some of the you-tube videos of soldiers returning from Afghanistan and being greeted by their dogs for proof.

Let the person running the game you're in now know what you need. Of course, that's not to say that you shouldn't try your hand running a new system, also. :)

Thank you for the advice. You're totally right, I should actually talk to my GM. I'm so uncomfortable with confrontation, that I never really seriously considered that before.
