So in my last entry I bemoaned the condition of my cat Bailey, who now looks very much like the leader of the evil Gremlins (what was his name? I remember Gizmo, but he was the cute little good one, right

I've seen cats fed on boiled chicken and rice for quite a while to help their systems calm down. It worked on my friend's big fluffy black cat whose allergies were driving them *all* mad. Mind you, they had to tell the neighbours not to feed him despite his cute, pleading eyes. I think he was also on steroids for a while at the start.
Sorry I didn't answer earlier, but sadly, Bailey got much worse very quickly, and had to be euthanized yesterday.
We're still not sure what was actually wrong with him, but it's possible that he wasn't suffering from a food allergy after all; one of the specialists at the clinic said that tumours on the pancreas can cause the kind of skin problems that the first vet thought were allergies.
But thanks for telling me about your friend's cat; I have others at home and I'm going to keep them on the hypoallergenic diet the vet initially recommended, just in case.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear about the poor guy. I wish I had some advice, but I don't. Lots of sympathy, though, and not just because I have allergies that make me look like a gremlin, but because I have a cat that looks like a gremlin and I know how it is trying to figure out what's wrong when they can't tell you.
Hey, thanks for the good thoughts. Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but Bailey's condition deteriorated, pretty quickly over the last few days, and died yesterday; I asked that he be euthanized at the vet's, but he probably wouldn't have lived more than a few more hours anyway.
Still not sure whether or not he had allergies, although the pattern of hair loss and other symptoms (sneezing, runny eyes) seemed to fit. The specialist at the clinic said he had a tumour and that pancreatic tumours can cause similar skin conditions.
And yes, I wish they could speak and tell us just what's bothering them. He definitely was trying to communicate yesterday, and I think the vet was right (although probably she was just trying to be nice) when she said he was trying to tell me it was time.
