I just got back from a retreat for a group I'm thoroughly involved in called S.E.E.D.S (Students Educating & Empowering to Develop Safety). Holy shit, was this weekend intense. The group's goal is to advocate against women's violence (sexual, physical, and mental abuse and stalking). For three days, we were given statistics, goals, stories, and ( Read more... )

I agree with you on most points, and I really do think that there needs to be more voice and public attention to this. However, I have to say that the facebook analogy is poor. The petitions on facebook were directly to an institution that could solve the problem because it was their responsibility. They were directly able to instantly and easily implement a change. With violence against women, while we can still do an enormous amount to prevent it, there is no institution that can assuredly, 100% fix the problem. Also, there's a problem about getting everyone together and really committed to one goal. You OBVIOUSLY (since you want to use that word to indicate that you know exactly what I'm thinking) didn't see my point. I was never demeaning this issue. I said I agreed. yeahh i actually researched domestic violence and did a speech on it last year in public speaking. i got an A because i was so into it. it was hard hearing all the stories and i actually printed off lists of women who were killed by their husbands/boyfriends. It was around 15 pages. It is really just awful and more people should be aware of what is going on. Ugh. Have a good day and i totally agree with everything you said especially your lastline ♥
