[That does give him something to think about. Though he's, at this point, not really in search of being redeemed.] What would you fix?

My deal's to fix someone I hurt. To save their life, and give 'em another chance. Give their parents another chance to do the right thing by 'em too.

And whilst I'm here, I'm tryin' to help people who've got some of the same problems I caused back at home.

What was it that you did, if it's not too personal?

I was a drug dealer. I sold people shit that fucked them up, and didn't give a shit what it did to them.

I'd be happy to.

What is a 'visiting order', exactly? I doubt our prisons were as civilised as yours.

Grand.

Oh. It's where, if you want to visit someone in prison, you fill in all the paperwork and shit. And then they give the prisoner the choice of seein' you or not. They can either accept it or refuse it (the prison can also refuse it for their own reasons, but that's another story), and if it's refused, there's fuck all you can do. It's to stop, like, people's arch-enemies turnin' up at the gate and causing a fuck load of trouble.

I understand. The few visitors to my homeland's prisons tended to use bribes or threats to the same sort of purpose.

I wouldn't put it past some prison wardens to go along with the bribes or threats, though.

And... you don't strike me as the sorta guy to end up in prison. Or is this common knowledge at home?

I do not know what it is you want to be redeemed for, but what if one is here for something that is right going by their own moral compass? How do you justify telling people how to feel and think?

You don't tell people. I ain't justifying that. You give 'em alternatives. Make 'em look at it from another perspective and see things differently.

You've gotta still come to those realisations yourself, and work it out. It ain't about 'think like this because I say so'.

But changing ones mind about what they did is still needed, is it not?

What if there's nothing to realize. That which I think is right, someone else sees as wrong and another person still might think something differently to both. Morality is subjective; and arguing scientifically, I was right to do what I did.

There's always somethin' to realise. Morality sure is subjective, yeah, but have you ever looked at anyone else's point of view, or just stuck with yours because you're damn sure it's right?

I ain't here to tell you what you've done wrong. I dunno. But there's always somethin' to realise.

So, you think once you've kinda come to that realization - that you've done somethin' wrong and need to make up fah it, and actually want to make up fah it - you're more oah less on the right track and can be done with bein' an inmate?

christ_onabike April 13 2011, 16:19:24 UTC
Yeah. Well, want to, know how, and know you wouldn't do the same again in the same situation?

You can't fake it, though. It's like goin' to confession and doin' lipservice. No point in sayin' sorry if you're gonna do it all over again.

knowsthepeople April 13 2011, 16:26:32 UTC
Figured that was kinda a given.

How often do people actually get there around heah?

One every coupla months, about? Sometimes we get a buncha them.

But it ain't that easy. That was kinda my point. It ain't a 'this is all you have to do' kinda thing.

You didn't? I thought that shit was common knowledge.

I think I should say congratulations, but your entry makes me think it is not appropriate at the moment.

[Pause.]

Congratulations, anyway.

...Bit belated.

And I never really know if it's a sort of... congratulatory thing.
