most of you livejournal kids are students, right? with student loans, right? i just filed my taxes and didn't mention them at all, because i haven't paid anything on my loans yet, and they haven't incurred interest because i'm not done with school, so... i didn't have to right? so i wont go to jail, right ( Read more... )

i don't know the answer but i'm in a similar deal. i took a class last year and i just got something in the mail about how much i spent on the course and how they are reporting it to the IRS. i got this just 2 days ago. i filed my taxes 2 weeks ago. it's not my fault i didn't have it in time. though i think it would have given me more money back. which sucks.

yeah... i could have gotten $300 more back if i had claimed the money for community college, but i'm just 20 and not married and have no babies.... so you know, i guess i dont get to claim things

1) Technically, I believe student assistance funds normally count as income.
2) As a rule, I never report it.
3) I suspect with a great deal of confidence that Uncle Sam won't notice this nor care about it.

actually i forgot my $350 MIP... so i'll probably do something exciting like pay that off, and maybe buy a game cube.. i suck like that.
