Statistics kept since 1900 show a return rate for a Category 3 storm as once every 26 years. It’s been 10 months since Ivan struck the Alabama Gulf Coast and Pensacola Bay Area, bringing 120-mph winds and a storm surge of 10 to 15 feet.
