What the hell, Capcom.
Okay, so I haven't updated on my life in a little while, but I need to come here and type this all out cos HOLYCRAPOMGWTFBBQ.
So, I found out that there was a trailer up for an up-and-coming new Devil May Cry game.
You all know I adore Dante, even though my layout is Nero. Please tell me why his hair is black.
The fandom is flipping out. "Why is his hair black?" "Who is this emo guy?" "Where's my hawt white-haired Dante?" etc., etc., etc.
I agree, this guy barely looks like Dante, yet he calls himself that. And, yeah, his jacket looks more like Nero's than Dante's (plus, it has a Union flag on the left sleeve). Now, here are a few things to consider:
-patch of white hair among the black
-he does, in fact, have Ebony and Ivory
-but doesn't seem to be in possession of Rebellion
-has red eyes instead of the canon blue
Also, it seems that the entire look of this new "Dante" seems to be based off the director of this game.
But may I point out that the city seems to be some strange mix of the city from DMC3 and Fortuna city? In the opening shot of the city, you can see that there are some wing-like things in the distance, and closer to the camera is something that looks vaguely like the outside walls of the opera house from Fortuna. What are those wings? Remains of Sanctus's big-ass statue?
And let's not forget the opening quote: "Heaven and Hell suppose two distinct species of men, the good and the bad. But the greatest part of mankind float betwixt vice and virtue."
Now, taking all things into account, I have a few ideas about what the hell is going on.
1) The most popular idea: This is a prequel that comes even before DMC3. Dante is young, rebellious, and is just starting to come into his demonic powers. And, to blend in more, he's dyed his hair black, but the roots are growing out/he left the patch white for style. Plus, he is MEGA FUCKED UP.
2) This is a Hell version of his earlier story, where everything is messed up and is a sort of a "I Am Legend" location, and this is the Hell version of Dante.
3) This goes along with the thing about the wing-things in the background possibly being remains of the statue, and the fact that this new "Dante" doesn't exactly look like him. Perhaps this Nero's son who, because his mother is (presumably) Kyrie and human, his hair is mostly black, instead of white. Or, it could be the same as before-dying it to blend in. But why is his name Dante? Hello- people are named after people all of the time. This would explain why his jacket is similar to Nero's and why he has a completely different look and attitude.
But those are just my opinions. I could be wrong, I could be right. Either way, I'm happy merely because we're finally getting that fifth game. :D I'll play it, no matter what.
EDIT: Okay, I swear, those annotations were NOT there when I first watched this. I'm so sorry for that ridiculousness being on the screen.
