Now that the
SSHG_Exchange has finished posting (sniffles), and
Exchange_Bingo is almost done, I've had a chance to catch my breath. And I'd like to squee like a madwoman about a couple of things.
First Big Squee: my exchange gift,
Between the Stars is made of win!! Here's the pertinent info:
Title: Between the Stars
Author: Temporarily Disillusioned
Rating: PG
Warnings: Neither canon compliant for JKR or Ovid, I'm afraid. Minor language.
Genre: Drama, Romance
Summary: Upon Hermione's tender touch, Severus Snape's statue is made real.
Word Count: 18,861
Author's Notes: I send my gratitude to my fantastic alpha/beta/Brit-pick team, [names redacted], to be named after the reveal. Thank you ladies for keeping me so inspired! Additional thanks to the lovely
christev, for her wonderful and generous prompt.
Original Prompt: Hermione is obsessing over the famed statue of the fallen war hero Severus Snape as she visits (curates?) the war museum dedicated to remembering VWII. Somehow she brings the statue to life, freeing her presumed dead Potions master. (borrowing heavily/putting a twist on the Pygmalion/Venus story would be lovely)
Prologue Act I Act II Act III It was such a great experience to participate in the Exchange this year. It's one thing to enjoy all the fic and art of the Exchange - a whole higher level of enjoyment to receive a gift made especially for me. I love my gift story so much. And receiving reviews for the story I wrote was incredible. I haven't written much, so to get a ton of reviews for a story all at once was amazing. My gift recipient was just wonderful, and said such lovely things about it. More on that after the reveal. :)
Next Big Squee: I got to meet
mundungus42!!!! And Mr. Dung! And the Dung doggies! It just so happened that the hotel for my Big Work Meeting was about ten minutes from her house, so she came by and picked me up for a late dinner on my (supposedly-but-not-so-very) "free" night. We had a great time talking about fic, fandom, family, our stories, our interests. I don't know if either of us paused for breath more than once or twice the entire time we were together! (Well, except maybe when I got to enjoy some fabulous homemade pistachio ice cream-yummm)
We finally saw that it was nearing midnight, and we both had work the next day, so she drove me back to the hotel... where we sat and talked for another half hour before saying good night. We realized we had no photo evidence of our fabuloso time, and well, midnight outdoors is not exactly the most optimal time for portrait taking, but I give you:
mundungus42 and
christev, blurry, but having a great time. (Geez, these are even worse than
my blurred photo of Alan Rickman!)
Isn't fangirlistan awesome!
Third Big Squee: I got to vacation at Chez
Pokeystar again!! After Big Work Meeting, I boarded a plane, and I swear to you I saw migrating whales in the ocean as I flew from San Diego north to Pokey-land. (No kidding, I saw big things that were not boats moving on top of the ocean, then going underwater.) This was my second time in ten months at Casa Star, and it was great to just relax after a pretty hectic meeting schedule. One day we ventured out to sight-see. We went on another tour of Hearst Castle again, because we both love it there. As we lined up for our tour, a man in our group called my name - small world - I used to work with his daughter! We chilled on the grounds for a few hours, basking in the beauty that obscene weath can buy, then went down to the beach and watched the waves pound in. I'm only including a few photos, since I posted so many
the last time I was there -

I miss you, Pokey and Mundungus!!
