The Victory of Defeat

Poem written after a period of anxiety and depression; too much responsibility and a bit of an identity crises. Praise God for “Working all things together for good” ... and ... XANAX!!

The Victory of Defeat

I’m battle worn and weary
But the battle is my own
I, myself, mine enemy
Demand to mount the throne.

I call for reinforcements
But which side made the call?
Which receives the answer?
Which side gives it’s all?

Both of me is calling
Neither wants to die
And so I win the honor
With haughty battle cry

I ascend and clutch the crown
Yet sitting on that throne
I see my realm is empty
I’m forsaken and alone

And as I look across the land
I see a million thrones
Each manned by it’s master
Each sitting there alone

But then my ear hears singing
I see men on their knees
Bowing crownless heads
To One who knows and sees

Their empty thrones forsaken
Their crowns laid at the feet
Of Christ in clouds enthroned
Above the Mercy Seat

I rise, I run toward Jesus
Bowing before His throne
I found myself alive in Christ
True joy in Him alone
