Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple 3/5
Bernadette is a genius architect who hasn't created any buildings in a long time.  Her 15-year-old daughter, Bee, goes to a private school in Seattle.  The other moms of kids at the school think Bernadette is eccentric, but she didn't seem that weird to me.  Just kind of a recluse.  Which is okay for ( Read more... )

It's funny--I agree with what you say about Eligible and yet I still liked it a lot! There were lots of things I could criticize, but I guess my own feelings are based on how eager I was to get in my car and listen to it each day. It was just a very fun book.

At one point, I needed to take a break from Eligible in order to finish Black River in time for the book discussion. When I got back to Eligible, it was the part when Liz was in Houston, and then she went to California. I was liking those parts and started thinking the book wasn't so bad after all. But then she got back to her family and I started getting really annoyed again. So maybe it's mostly her family that annoyed me so much!
