Where I've been

One or two of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting much these days. Honestly, I'm not sure why. Nothing particularly tragic or life-altering has occurred; I just seem to have lost interest in reviewing books or meeting challenge requirements. I decided to quit the 12 in 12 challenge at LibraryThing, which was a fairly major decision for ( Read more... )

That's what happened with my challenges as well, which is why I've basically stopped doing them. Reading should be a delight - not a chore.

You're exactly right! I'm currently in the process of rediscovering that delight, and it's pretty great. :)

Thanks! It's so nice to go back and revisit books that I loved but didn't previously have time for.

I know what you mean about reading & reviewing becoming a chore! Sometimes, though, it's in my head; I just overthink my reviews and make it last an hour longer at the computer than it should be! I've become more selective, as a result; only books I really like (or dislike) I've bothered to write about.

I definitely overthink my reviews sometimes too. And mine generally aren't even that long! I think your policy of only reviewing the books that really stand out to you is a good one. I might try doing mini-reviews of the books I read instead of full-fledged ones -- just enough to give my general impressions.

A wise decision, I think. Keeping reading fun is the first priority.

Mini-reviews sounds like a good idea, or even just a list of what you're reading. (I say this selfishly, as I've found a lot of interesting books through you.)

That's true, re-reading makes sense sometimes. I can prove it from my own experience. I also doubt if it is worth enlisting on a challenge. Reading is individual, you cannot commit to reading the books somebody else has chosen. Or if you do, the risk is high, the time will be wasted.
