so, I'm going to walmart for a couple things. I bring my reusable bag because..well..it's reusable and it's not like I'm coming home with a lot of stuff. one bag is good. this is why I bought it

omg.. that was one thing that I really forgot about when I went home to Alabama. All the damn plastic shopping bags. We NEVER use them out here, and san fran has banned them for good. We have our own bags and usually if I only have a few things I'll just carry them instead of getting a plastic bag (like at a convenience store where they give you a bag for gum and a coke). When we lived in our apartment on the 3rd floor, the reusable ones were a god-send because they wouldn't rip half way up the stairs.
More people in Alabama (and elsewhere) need to get with the program on the whole reusable shopping bag thing. They need to make it easier to use self checkout with your own bags. Even here I have to call the attendant over to clear out the scale after I put my reusable bags down.
I don't usually go to walmart unless I need to get a lot of stuff, anyway. so me bringing in 15 reusable bags is kind of..cumbersome. I also save all of the plastic bags to use in little trash bins throughout the house. once I'm at maximum storage capacity for plastic bags I just gather them up and put them off to the side to return to the store next time I go.
but what's frustrating is the whole idea that this lady not only ignored the bag that I was holding, she actually rang a second one up and then BAGGED IT in a plastic bag. poorly. and by the time I realized what she was doing she was basically done with the transaction and I didn't want to be like, "wtf are you doing, rebag this stuff CORRECTLY."
and yeah, I figured I'd have a rough time at the self-checkout so I went to the short line since the *last time* the lady actually had a clue.
