Charlotte paced her bedroom anxiously and hoping desperately that she was wrong. That it was something else--anything else. Just not that. Please not that. The way her family treated Savannah for transferring to Lancer... that would be nothing compared to how they would treat her if she really was pregnant. Savannah got disowned, but her parents still reached out from time to time. Charlotte wouldn't even have that.
After a few more minutes of pacing, she glanced at the clock to see that it was time. She took a deep breath before stepping into her bathroom. Thankfully, her bathroom was connected to her bedroom. Actually, it connected her room and Savannah's old room, but her parents had no reason to go in there. They wouldn't have seen the test while she was waiting. She had given this a lot of thought. Too much thought.
She picked up the test stick, closing her eyes as she did so. She held it level with her eyes, but she was too scared to actually open them. Finally, slowly, she forced them open and her heart sunk. Immediately. Positive. How could this happen to her? After Savannah left, Charlotte got the favored daughter position, but truth be told it came with a lot more pressure. With Savannah gone, her parents expected even more from Charlotte. And becoming an unwed mother was not a part of that.
She stepped backward toward the closed door and sunk down to the floor, still holding the pregnancy test in her hand. Her eyes flooded with tears and she sat there crying. It didn't change anything. It didn't make anything better. But right now she just needed to let it all out.
She didn't know how long she had been crying before she heard voices downstairs. She tossed the test stick into the trash can with the empty box and covered it with tissues before going to the sink and washing her face so that any sign of tears were gone, then she went downstairs.
By the time she got down there, her mother was leaving the living room, but she could see very clearly her sister. Her traitor sister sitting on the couch. She stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms crossed doing her best to hold everything in. "What are you doing here?" she asked coldly.
