End of the Week Round-up

It's been a very long week. I actually squeezed in a day and a half of actual work, but also went to the dentist and had a job interview.  Finished (sort of) a LONNNG revision. SMOKE & MIRRORS that started at 90,000 words, after adding a prologue and rewriting the storyline, ended up at around 104,000. Over 300 pages. But they're GOOD pages; I'm ( Read more... )

Wow, it sounds like you had a busy week!

I'm all jaw-droppy at how long SMOKE & MIRRORS is. I can't imagine ever writing a book that long! I'm glad to hear you enjoy how the book is currently after all those revisions. :)

And that's so great about the job interview! I'll cross my fingers that good news follows. *crosses fingers* ;)

I know, right? I'm kind of nervous about how long it is, hoping it doesn't put agents off. Which is why I'm waiting to query, because my reader might have some cutting suggestions that I haven't seen.

But, on the other hand, it's a dual POV book, so that contributes to the length. If I just had one POV, the book would be really much shorter, but then I'd have to add in more stuff to draw it out. It's complicated.

My books are a bit oxymoronish in that sense. All my multiple POV books have been super short, but my latest WIP is told from a single POV, and it's turned out to be my longest book yet. (The current draft will probably come close to 80K.) I doubt my experience is normal, though, so yeah, the dual POVs are probably a component in making your book as large as it is!

Definitely! But it's important to the story that we follow both characters, so that's the way I went.

That's funny that you do the opposite.
