The first three books have changed words for the US (like "Sir Cadogan was fired" rather than "Sir Cadogan was sacked"), but the overall content is the same. Maybe a bit overly cautious about American kids' contextual skills, but I wouldn't say the American books are "dumbed down." By Book Four's release the series was secure enough that kids would read it anyway, so Goblet of Fire and beyond are identical (although in the British versions, which I have, all those letters with the fake natural handwriting fonts are just typed out normally). Maybe you heard about him trying to fix his hair but failing.

Also, before Book Four came out Rowling said a major character was going to die, and... I mean Cedric isn't exactly major. I think she just wants us to know that no one's future is secure.

Don't fret!

Well, by "heard" I meant "read on JK Rowling's official site," and she also mentioned how Dean Thomas is introduced in Book One America, but not in Book One UK, for whatever that's worth. So it's not worth to go back and buy all the Brit versions?

And yeah, the Cedrid thing is a good point. I mean, cuz really, you CAN'T kill Harry Potter.

I'm pretty sure that Rowling won't outright kill Harry. She might, MIGHT possibly kill off one of the peripheral characters, but you bet they sure as heck will go out in a blaze of glory, and with a darn good reason (similar to the death in Half-Blood Prince). Most likely Rowling dropped the statement about Harry dying because she was expecting exactly what Harry Potter fans are doing right now--rushing to their blogs and Myspaces and all that and making a big commotion about that. Rowling knows one thing--any sort of press is good. It sounds kind of cynical, I guess.

But yeah, I am definitely looking forward to Book 7 and will be sad to see it end, after so many years of being a fan.
