So quite a bit has happened since my last entry.
I had an awesome halloween weekend, hanging out with my friends and what not. On Friday the 27th, we did a combo party night/Alexi's birthday celebration. Alexi is a new girl in the program, and we love, love celebrating birthdays. With lots of alcohol, of course. So we partied a bit in Hollywood that night, bought Alexi lots of drinks, and got her so wasted that night that she was too hung over the next day to have her "scheduled to be more laid back" birthday dinner. Oh well. As long as she had fun the night before, right? Which she did.
Then Saturday, we had very complex plans. I was invited to two different parties ahead of time, and I was going to try and attend both. But I got to one, and was getting ready to leave it for the other, when I got invited to a completely different third party. Because I'm that cool and popular. Of course, I opted for the third party, but first I had to stop by AJ's and pick him up. Which I was all too excited to do, because AJ had been out of commission for about two weeks. He had surgery on his rotater cuff, and has his arm up in a sling. Between the meds and the exhaustion of trying to do everything with one hand, AJ was just too wiped to hang out with us. So, like I said, thrilled to have him coming out on this particular Saturday night.
By the way, I went as Apollo, god of the sun. And of the hunt, a la the bow and arrow, and the lyre. But I was only in my capacity as sun god. AJ attempted to go as a bunch of grapes, but failed miserably. In the end, we had to concoct "excuses" for what his costume was. The one we settled on as our favorite was a wounded purlple star fish. Because he of course still had to wear his sling.
Anyway, I had to wait while he put this costume together, which made us quite a bit late to the party we were headed to. Which turned out to be okay, because by the time we were almost there, the cops had raided it and shut it down. Instead, we went to Andrew's apartment nearby, and drank into the wee hours. And I mean wee. And then Amanda, totally sober, a super trooper if there ever was one, made us pasta. Sweet girl.
Then, of course, there's my amazing new job. I was offered a job on that same Halloween Friday (and consequently hired 30 minutes later) as a production assistant on a reality television show. I can't say much about it, because it hasn't begun airing yet, I'm not exactly sure when it will, and I signed a really long confidentiality agreement that I didn't exactly read, so better to ere on the side of caution for the time being. But at any rate, the job is a cool one, unlike the hell that I hear most PA gigs are. The folks that I work for are super nice and don't treat me like a slave, but more like an actual coworker, which is very cool. And I work for a television show. One that's actually going to be on tv. It's kind of a huge thing, when I think about it. And the timing was amazing, because I was broke phi broke, and was wondering how the bills were gonna get paid. Because the tutoring jobs I had, while they offered high hourly rates, were only giving me like 4 hours a week. What the hell am I supposed to do with a $50 paycheck?
Then, since everything was going well, you know something bad had to happen. My car? My beautiful, wonderful Toyota? The radiator broke down. Apparently, it had been leaking for some time, and all the antifreeze had just dripped right out. Made the entire engine over heat. And had to be replaced. The whackest part of this, though, is that the engine didn't stat overheating until the VERY SAME DAY I took my car to Jiffy Lube to have the oil changed. So what I am thinkng? Jiffy Lube screwed up. Which would have been awesome, because that would mean I wouldn't have to pay for the repairs. Of course, it's not their fault. Which I kind of knew. And now I had this huge repair bill on my hands, and I had only just started my job. No paycheck yet. Which wouldn't have mattered cuz that money we earmarked for bills anyway. Sigh.
It all worked out though. As things tend to in the end. As the good witch says, if it hasn't all worked out, it's not the end yet. More later, perhaps.
