i can understand our involvement in afghanistan. we couldnt just sit idly by and not respond with overwhelmbing force and do all we could to go after bin laden. anything less would have made us look weak.

involvement in iraq is a different ball game altogether. attacking a country we had already soundly defeated made us look desperate, like a rattled school yard bully picking on random children smaller than him after he was hit by a rock.

i think a lot of those in power still think along the lines of conventional warfare and tactics, and just arent willing to look at the big picture.

I understand that. I never had objections to Afghanistan as long as the target was Bin Laden and the taliban. Somehow since then we have become the self proclaimed spreaders of freedom to the world.

The problems in the middle east go all the way back to the recreation of Isreal.. a Jewish state forced into the middle of the Islamic part of the world. They continued with us having troops and bases in Saudi Arabia to us arming the Afghanis against Russia and then bailing on them to us selling arms to various Middle Eastern countries so that they could fight other Middle Eastern Countries.

These guys have been fighting each other for thousands of years.. they'd probably still just be fighting each other if other countries hadn't tried to nose into it.

Bleh. Oh well. Not a whole lot to be done about it.
