Hi Christy, I came across your posting when I was searching for images of the parka you bought ... I have had a few different down-filled garments over the years and for the weight, I find you cannot beat the amount of insulating warmth you get from well-made down outerwear (vests, jackets, coats). I live in Vancouver and typically don't *need* a down-filled parka -except when I am standing around watching my son play soccer all winter!- but purchased one similar to yours when I was going to Ottawa for business in November and February. There it goes down to -21°C on a typical winter day (and I was born and raised in Winnipeg, where it goes to -40°C on some days). It helps if you wear good insulation, such as merino wool baselayers and another fleece sweater under the down outerwear, to trap in your body heat. The other "trick" to staying warm in frigid temperatures is to have good insulating footwear, gloves, and headwear, and to move around to keep your circulation going. Down is not great for damp weather though, so you are better
