Changing Default URL Search in a Mozilla browser

Sep 17, 2008 06:30

I finally got around to Changing Flock's Default URL Search to Google. This should work in Firefox or any other Mozilla browser.

I did it slightly differently - I just wanted a straight Google search when I type in the address bar, not "I'm feeling lucky", and not Yahoo, so in about:config I changed the keyword.URL value to http://www.google.com/search?q=

Then I thought - I already have Google in the search box, so why not use the address bar to search Appropedia? So I changed it to
http://www.appropedia.org/Special:Search?search= ...and it works nicely.

This should go in a wiki somewhere. The MozillaWiki is for development - is there a wiki for user help & documentation?
Edit: Yes there is: the Mozilla support wiki (hiding in the most obvious place) - thank you to the anon commenter, below. I've given it a link with "wiki" in the anchor text, and if a few more people do that, it'll show up more easily. (Or if Google worked out that TikiWiki is kind of a synonym for wiki, that would help.

search, google, mozilla, flock, wikis, address bar
