Shitty subtitles: engage

Netflix's subtitles for Star Trek TNG are hilariously terrible. For some ungodly reason Riker's line of "All stations, prepare for reconnection" in the first episode is captioned as "All stations, prepare for happy birthday." I don't have a screencap to prove it, but I'm sure someone else does.

I laughed loudly (and embarrassingly) at "All stations, prepare for happy birthday." And for some reason I did the same with "Engag■".

Yes! That's the one. How the hell did that error even come about? Q meddling?

It cracked me up too, especially since it occurred at the very end of the episode after it had gone without the Jeopardy blocks for awhile. Bam, suddenly ENGAG■.

I love how serious Riker looks while the subtitle is talking about a happy birthday.

I wonder if maybe they used some kind of (awful) voice recognition software to make subtitles. As for the blocks, maybe their subtitles are in a corrupted file and they're too lazy busy to fix them. It kinda defeats the purpose of subtitles to have them so inaccurate and unreadable...unless the purpose is to have people post about them on the Internet, in which case M■SSI■N A■COM■LIS■ED.
