So I finished the game. I picked the same ending as you it seems. What the hell did the catalyst mean when it said that there could never be peace between synthetics and organics? I'm pretty sure I had just convinced synthetics and organics that had been at war for centuries to live in harmony just a few hours before. Is my crew just supposed to starve to death on some uncharted jungle world? Even by choosing what seemed to be the good ending I have destroyed galactic civilization by blowing up the mass relays? I really hope the fan theories are correct and the "endings" were some sort off Last Temptation of Christ hallucination, and that a proper ending will be added after the game has been released world wide.
I had no allusions of a happy ending. I went into this pretty sure that Shep was going to die. I just wanted to see all of the alliances I had brokered to come to fruition. A Krogan counselor, Geth and Qurarian living side by side and maybe, in a small fit of vanity a statue of Shep on the Citadel. I think the main reason the destruction of the relays bothers me is I had always hoped for a game like Dragon Age Origins set in the Mass Effect universe after Shepard's story was over.
As for the new Eden. The crew of the Normandy was rather small. Not enough genetic diversity to last. I assume the only species that can interbreed are the Asari, and the last time I saw my Asari crew member she was rushing towards the Citadel beam with me
Funny that you mention blue babies. I had was wondering what Liara's "gift" was before the final battle. I know that the Asari blend nervous systems, instead of what we would consider sex. Was she impregnating herself? If so Kadian, if he survived, would not be happy.
