Praise you! Because I have a (IMO) great idea for this week's challenge, and now I don't have to stay up all night to write it even though I have to get up early in the morning and I'm already falling asleep at my computer!
Oh, and would you mind clarifying exactly what you consider songfic? 'Cause I could give three different definitions depending on what fandom I was discussing, so it would help to know what you're looking for.
Oh, just in general, do you mean the song must be quoted as an actual part of the story, or the song needs to show up in the story, but could be 'background music' or section headers, or . . . um, something else?
I generally work on the inspired by school of thought, which sometimes means that the song shows up as section headers or is actually a part of the story, but doesn't necessarily.
Yay! Songfic -- way to appeal to my baser nature. I will now endeavor to do both, and want dibs on Avril's "I'm With You," 'cause I recognize it, dammit! I'm just not that hip, or don't listen to enough country, or something, but the songs on the Top 100 don't seem all that familiar to me. Perhaps once I work my way out of the quagmire that is school, I will be able to reconnect with all that is pop culture.
