OMG! How much do I wish I was back in Alaska... I don't know what it was about that place- probably the unbelievable scenary, and the uncivilized feeling throughout the countryside. No, haven't read them... Haven't read any of Anne McCafrey actually- but given all my fantasy friends, I am aware of her. Are these books that you own? If so, could you possbily bring them to the meeting and I'll promise to take good care of them?
Also- if you're going to be at the meeting, I can bring down a box or two of the books I have sitting out waiting to get rid of.

When I was homesteading in Alaska, I felt pretty much the same way. The cool thing about Homesteading was that I would work during the summer and then spend the fall, spring and winter at the homestead. Doing computer contract work, I could easily make enough during the summer to pay for everything and you can't really travel easily in the "bush" during the summer.

The "Powers that Be" books are wonderful. Even if you are not a fan of Ann McCaffery, you will love those books - especially if you have spent any time in Alaska.
