winged (not quite ready to fly.)

hi 2N. basically I feel very bad for not writing letters for any of you, so here's a poem to make up for it. I hope you like it.
(also i hope you get the little references i made inside)

winged (not quite ready to fly.)

it was in spring
that we were put together into the cage called 1N
barely fledglings, barely aware
flapping around with barely developed wings
and squabbling when our colourful wings somehow touched each other.

but time is a wondrous thing
as we grew to realise that wings don't always have to fly
sometimes it rained on us: no cover, no protection
so we learnt to shield each other with our wings
and built a shelter of our own.

seasons changed and over winter
we shed our feathers for better ones
some were more colourful, some not so
and some of us squeezed through the bars and left
still, we were fine.

we learnt to huddle together during the cold nights
for warmth, for comfort, for safety
we laughed at our keepers (raughed)
gave each other food when there wasn't enough for everyone
and from mere fledglings, we evolved into phoenixes.

but the time has come for us
to spread our wings and leave the cage
but of course, that doesn't mean we leave the shelter
and birds of a feather flock together
so one day, we'll meet again as 2N '13
and till then
we'll be absolutely fine.

(27 lines, for 27 birds. 3 of us left, but that's alright.)
