"Have a tissue, dear."
Tonks sniffled, took the tissue and blew her nose with a sound like a foghorn. "Thanks, Molly," she said, voice coming out embarrassingly thick with tears. "I'm sorry; I don't know what I was thinking dumping all this on you like this. There's just no one else I can talk to..." Her voice dissolved into swiftly stifled sobs.
"There, there." Molly's hand patted hers comfortingly.
Tonks sniffled again and wiped her eyes. "I never should have though that he might actually l-like me," she said, voice breaking. "I mean, I'm clumsy and silly and messy and now I c-can't even ch-change color anymore--" She raised the tissue to her face again as a fresh attack of sobs gripped her, partly to hide her face and partly to stem the fresh flow of tears.
Comforting arms enfolded her shoulders. "Now, dear, it's not your fault. If it's any comfort, I think he does like you."
She raised her head, wanting to believe. "R-really?" she asked, choking back the flood of tears.
Molly sat down in the chair next to her. "He looks at you when he thinks no one else is looking," she said, handing Tonks a fresh wad of tissues.
Tonks wiped her nose. "He does?" she asked. She looked at Molly hopefully, then lowered her eyes. "He said he was too old for me. That he couldn't be with me because he's a werewolf. I told him that I didn't care, but he said I deserved someone better. I thought he was just being k-kind..." She swallowed another sob, sniffling.
Molly sighed. "Men. Always trying to be noble. He probably even thinks that he's protecting you."
"That sounds like Remus," Tonks said, smiling despite herself.
Molly couldn't help but smile too, seeing Tonks' suddenly dreamy gaze. "You stay there," she ordered. "I'll make you a cup of tea."
"That would be lovely," Tonks said.
