You know, I liked X-men and X2, but only because any deviation from canon was canonical--Marvel keeps changing origins and stories so often, ret-conning or getting their own histories wrong, so if a movie did it, well then...
But you're absolutely right. Watchmen is one of the best things since sliced bread, it's great in part because it knew when to quite. It had some very big things to say, and it said them over 12 issues--and then it stopped. The characters were intense and some of the best I've ever seen--Rorschach was one of the best conceived anti-hero characters I've ever read, and you know he's gonna be 'made cool.' This movie is likely going to be trash, and why? Why would someone reduce it to crap? Why bother making something just to defile it, to decrease it?
