sorry to be a bit random, but i noticed in the montreal community that you lived in canada for three years on a visitors visa? was that in montreal?
my boyfriend is from france & we're trying to figure out the most appropriate way for him to move to montreal.....any help would be greatly appreciated : )
Hey! No problem. I was actually in Vancouver when I immigrated, so I'm really not familiar with the Quebec process. Since I'm from the U.S., I would either take a day trip across the border or apply for an extended vistor visa. It's not all that it's cracked up to be though. I couldn't work for a few years, until I found an under the table nanny job.
Also, immigration from the U.S. may be slightly different...but I'm really not sure. Are you able to apply within Canada or outside Canada? Also, I'm actually married so that also makes a big difference as well. Now looking back, it's not all that difficult to immigrate as common-laws. I wish I had know that, but I do not regreat being married to my husband. :)
Anyways... If you have any questions, I will try to help you. My email is ladylaro@gmail.com.
Yes, you can 'visit' up to 6 months. If you want to apply for an extended visitor visa, make sure to send it in AT least 6 weeks before the 6 months is up. Again, I would make sure to check what the rules are for where your boyfriend is from and what the rules are in Quebec for the visitor visa.
They are really tough on relationships! It's a long, tiring, emotional process.

Apparently immigrating as common-law has taken well documented couples up to two years :/
You can "visit" Canada legally for up to 6 months, correct? That's when the extended visitor visa comes into play?
Countries are so tough on relationships....hehe....
