Here's a note for nonnatives living in Northern California. It's never called THE 280. Also, highway 1 north of Santa Lucia is NEVER referred to as "THE PCH". It's not even "PCH" nor is it "(the) pacific coast highway", it's highway 1, route 1 or simply, 1. You may refer to "the oregon expressway" or even "the 280/880 interchange", but you take 17 ( Read more... )

I blame the whole "Cali" thing on West-Coast rappers.

Then again they also refer to cities as their airport codes. "Yo I was up at SFO puttin dubs on my prius!"

I use "Pacific Coast Highway" when referencing it scenic reasons as opposed to just as an available route.

Traffic is all fucked up over 17 and into San Jose, take 1 instead.

vs.

The beaches along the Pacific Coast Highway are beautiful this time of year, if you have extra time it is worth going that way.
