Miami passenger shot by Federal Air Marshall after making bomb threatsYou know, I think the Federal Air Marshall did the right thing. Even though this passenger was mental ill and was bipolar, his wife claimed he wasn't taking his medication. That's no excuse. If you're mentally ill and are on a plane, and not taking your medication, I don't want ( Read more... )

Yup. Man did what he had to do. He had no way of knowing beforehand that the dude had mental illness. Had the dude been a real terrorist he could have seriously hurt somebody(s).

Though....a real terrorist wouldn't have told anybody that he had a bomb...
I suppose there are some deranged individuals who would have done so before blowing themselves up.

There really needs to be more attention and care paid to individuals with mental illness - these people don't often get all the help they need (many times their lives are already ruined before finally diagnosed and treated) if they are noticed at all.

I would feel sorry for the guy because he wasn't able to avoid a situation where killing him is the best option, or even the necessary one. I wouldn't really place the blame on anybody; it's just an unfortunate situation.

True... good that they did their job but I live in Florida (Tampa) and am very worried that they are using it as a testing ground to show terrorists that they will kick their ass but innocent people will die in the process. They do that kinda stuff in Florida and it actually scares me more than anything.

I read your post about your reaction to this incident and respect what you think on it, honestly. I know this wasn't an easy thing to do and it's one of those things a Federal Air Marshall hopes will never happen, but that's what they are trained to do, it's their job, they can't take it lightly. It's really a situation where if you hesitate, you die, along with many other innocent people. Even if he didn't have a bomb, nobody else knows that, and you gotta take his word if he threatens he does have one and he'll use it. It's really tragic to where it shouldn't of ended up like this, but it did.

People always test others to try to find a weakness. If you show an opening, terrorists will always take advantage of the situation without regard to human life. We can't afford to screw up again and show weakness. If we do, we're in big trouble, and many more innocent people will die.

The air marshall did what he was trained to. If the psycotic guy had been a real terrorist the air marshall would be get a medal of valor or something.

If anyone is to blame other then the guy who got shot it is his wife for not making him take his lithium.
