Yeah dude, Buddhism rocks. I've been rolling in that crew for over 20 years son! And it's good shit.

I always used to have conversations and debates with the monks, who were cool people when it comes to religion or even just to talk to. I remember a particularly interesting conversation about Euthanasia... and it was always about just discussion and real tolerance. In fact, from what I recall, Buddhism is totally cool with you practicing other religions while also being a Buddhist...and after that makes sense because its true like you said, it's kind of a religion and kind of a philosophy.

Man I'm bored here at work.

lol, log on to AIM then, biznatch!

Yeah, the author of this book said that when he was ordained as a buddhist monk, his teacher warned him against referring to himself as a buddhist.

It's interesting how it blends so well with other cultures, religions, and philosophies.

What is also interesting is the (so far as I know from my limited access on the subject) history of non-violence... or perhaps the absence of violence from their history. *shrug* It's an anecdote I don't quite have time for.

Oh, and dude, I found out that it's Theravada Buddhism (as opposed to Mayana Buddhism) that was brought into Sri Lanka. The bodhisattva (that's a Mayana term, I forgot the Theravada one) that helped to spread it brought a cutting from the Bodhi Tree (where Siddartha originally became enlightened) and when it was cut down by a jealous Hindu king, the tree in Sri Lanka was used to take a cutting and restore the Bodhi tree again.

All this stuff is really interesting. I find it so much more enthralling than christianity...

Dude, I've seen that trre in Sri Lanka. There's security and its a big tourist attraction there. It's crazy too, we brought back some leaves (which fell off the tree and were on the ground, they make it so no one can get close enough to the tree and leaves to be able to pull anything off of it.)

And yeah, there is very, very little history of violence in Buddhism, if any at all. Unlike other religions which have stipulations about crusades, jihads, or other "holy wars", Buddhism doesn't condone violent behavior to accomplish anything.

It's some cool stuff, no lie y0z.
