Wow. Our feet STILL hurt, but we had a great time at Maker Faire. The sheer number of cool people, sharing ideas, beliefs and convictions, was wonderful. VERY inspiring.
Were they allowing people to bring their own food this year? Last year they searched bags and confiscated my bottle of water. I don't recall whether they allowed in-out privileges on the wristbands.
If we go in the future, and if there are in-out privileges on the entry fee, then a cooler in the car is definitely the way to go.
They don't allow outside food or drink into the fair grounds, and they do check (but it was all very civil). But they do allow in-out priveleges - Val got her hand stamped on the way out, just for laughs. So yeah, next year we're bringing food and keeping it in the car. $6 for a dry, cold falafel wrap. $4 for a 16 oz. lemonade. $3.50 for a .75 liter bottle of water. The best deals on the grounds were the water fountains at the buildings, so empty, reusable bottles will accompany us next time (ours were dirty, and I neglected to wash them before Saturday morning). Live and learn.
I missed the food Natzis?kitsunechanOctober 22 2008, 02:26:25 UTC
I managed to smuggle a water bottle in hand when I walked through the gate on Sat. morning.. maybe they hadn't warned the gatekeepers to police for food by then? Saved 4 bucks by not having to buy a drink, though.
Man, I MISSED you! Next time, let me know you're coming!kitsunechanOctober 22 2008, 02:24:44 UTC
I got the $6 lamb wrap for 5 since my guy sweet-talked the nice lady behind the booth for a 'smaller portion'. But yeah, food was a bit of a rip, and a lot less options than I was expecting. I wish I had been able to go for longer, because then I would have run into you guys, but it was definitely worth the time and effort to get to show up for a few hours. :) Or maybe it was the company..
Next time I'm staying all day to watch the robots tear one another to bits! XD
