Blog is the decentralized version of letter to the editor (or whatever).
Twitter is the shorter version of a blog.

There was nothing personal about either of those to begin with. It's still a form of communication, just not personal.

Blogging and social networking replaces what used to be personal communication. That is the bad part.

i don't think blogging is replacing personal communication
i don't think blogging grants the same kind of satisfaction, so people still seek out personal communication
but there are people, i have to admit, that, do not get enough personal communication -- either because they are satisfied with blogging, in which case it's their problem, or because of their life's circumstances, in which case they turn to blogging as an escape, instead of seeking out personal communication

по мне так обе формы общения дополняют друг друга
иногда в пустоту интернета легче высказаться, чем конкретно одному человеку
иногда из глубин интернета приходит неожиданно нужный ответ/совет/мысль
