Disclaimer: I couldn't find the JP subtitles, so take that into account and I'm sorry about the mistakes. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find time to do this on a regular schedule, for reasons... so search for other options if you're looking for something sure and without mistakes.
I've finally decided that I have time to write down some notes... so bear with me...
Episode 1:
I'll mainly write about food in the notes, it's not because that's what I remember the most, but because of the theme of the dorama!
- Kinpira Gobo (Braised Burdock Root): Stir-fried and simmered in sweet soy seasoning, Kinpira Gobo is a traditional Japanese dish of shredded burdock root and carrot with a hint of sesame. This crunchy and savory root vegetable is a great make-ahead side dish for your bento lunch or busy weeknight dinner.
I really wanted to just call it kinpira gobo, but I tried to keep most of it in English.
- okazu, or side dish. You probably have noticed how colorful and varied Japanese bentos are
- The steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) is a common small antelope of southern and eastern Africa. It is sometimes known as the steinbuck or steinbok.
I decided to write it like it was written in the book Kei-chan was looking at.

Kushihara (串原村, Kushihara-mura) was a village located in Ena District, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the village had an estimated population of 976 and a density of 25.54 persons per km2. The total area was 38.22 km2.
On October 25, 2004, Kushihara, along with the towns of Akechi, Iwamura, Kamiyahagi and Yamaoka (all from Ena District), was merged into the expanded city of Ena, and no longer exists as an independent municipality.
This is the village Kei-chan's character usually visits, and he is researching or ends up researching the reasons people still live there. Also this village was known because locals ate wasps.
- Konjac jelly, or konnyaku (こんにゃく), is made from the starchy konjac plant. The elephant foot yam and devil’s tongue are alternative names for the konjac plant.

Konjac potato: The main ingredient in konjac is the bulb of the konjac potato plant, a member of the araceae family. The rugged, rock-like konjac potatoes come in a variety of shapes and colors. It takes 3 years for the potato to grow large enough to be used in konjac.

Episode 3:
This episode mentions a lot of things and it was super hard to find some references, I took a very long time trying to find one specifically. But all the facts mentioned are really interesting. I like how they bring up very traditional dishes of the geographical area, Nagoya.
- Red Miso Soup with Tofu and Seaweed (
Akadashi):Akadashi is a rich and flavorful variation of miso soup that hails from the Aichi region in Japan. Made with red miso paste, tofu and wakame seaweed
- Kinema (Nepali: किनेमा) is a fermented soybean food, prepared by the Kirati communities of the Eastern Himalayas region: Eastern Nepal, and Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim regions of India. Kinema also known as Kinama, which is a traditional food of the Kirati people (Rai people and Limbu people).
This is a very interesting point, he mentions that the fermented soybeans or natto that is usually disliked by foreigners in Japan because of the smell, it's actually something also common in Asia, which is something japanese people has study a lot.
There's a term he uses, he mentions that in Bhutan they called it "ribi・ippa", I tried looking this all around the internet, and couldn't find anything except in Japanese
webpages, so I really have no idea of the writing of this word in the original language.
- De-ra-uma” means ‘ very delicious ’ in Nagoya dialect. "De ra” means ‘wow’ or ‘very’ in Nagoya dialect.
- Hitsumabushi is a local dish of Japan, consisting of thinly sliced unagi (eel) grilled in kabayaki style on rice. Hitsumabushi became common in the 1950s, when farm-raised eel became widely available.
- Kabayaki (蒲焼) is a preparation of fish, especially unagi eel, where the fish is split down the back (or belly), gutted and boned, butterflied, cut into square fillets, skewered, and dipped in a sweet soy sauce-based marinade before being cooked on a grill or griddle.

- Yukari is a traditional Japanese seasoning made from dried and powdered red shiso leaves and salt.
- Shiso: The herb is known in Chinese as zǐsū, which is the origin of the Japanese name shiso and the Vietnamese name tía tô.

I couldn't find much on the mountain, or the picking of mushrooms, except for

And there are a couple of mushrooms mentioned like King trumpet mushroom. And a couple of trees, I tried to keep all the English names and a couple of notes. But my knowledge in mushrooms is minimal or non-existent.

All I have for this is an expression:
Mawashi” means ‘to prepare’ or ‘to be ready’ in the dialect of Aichi and Gifu regions.
Also, I mentioned a couple of food not in English, but I believe they're really known.
And about the urban agriculture... I really don't know much about that.

I really don't have notes about ep 7 so let's go with 8. There's not much here either.

- Toyokawa Inari: also known as Toyokawa Inari, is a Sōtō Zen Buddhist temple located in the city of Toyokawa in eastern Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
The temple was also known as 'Heihachirō Inari' (平八郎稲荷) due to a story involving its founder Tōkai Gieki.
It is said that an old man carrying a small pot or cauldron (kama) appeared before Gieki and offered his services. The old man went on to work at Gieki's temple, using his pot to cook meals for the monks. The pot was seemingly magical, in that it continually provided an endless supply of food enough to satisfy tens and even hundreds of people. When asked how he was capable of performing such miraculous feats, the man replied that he had three hundred and one servants at his bidding. The old man stayed by Gieki's side until the latter's death, at which he vanished without a trace, leaving only his pot behind. People then came to revere the old man, dubbed 'Heihachirō' (平八郎), as a servant or avatar of Dakiniten, a fox spirit (kitsune) who assumed human form.
And that's the reason for so many
fox statutes.
- Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of larvae and adult queens. It is secreted from the glands in the hypopharynx of worker bees, and fed to all larvae in the colony.

And I loved the detail of them communicating through the lunchboxes, which was super cute. I think parenting is about making sacrifices or making decisions not only based on our predilections, but I guess moving could have also been a chance. And this is me, finishing this year's dorama, while building my place, literally, I have no money. I work in 3 jobs to pay for it. I know it's short, but still. I wish next year, I'll have more time, and I wish I could also find more interesting doramas, I wanted to try Fuma's but I didn't like the first episode and I stopped watching. Plus I don't have time to watch hardly anything. Ok, that's it, I'll be leaving now, next are the little bits I manage to write when there were no notes and my first impressions!

Episode 6 and still not notes, but, this time the hardest to "English" title of the episode and I've already watched episode 7, and what a cliffhanger!!! I want to know where this goes!
