I really don't have much time, so, sorry about any mistakes. I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes of this dorama and hopefully will be able to do this.
And I doubt I'll have time to do my usually endless notes I did it anyway 'cause couldn't help it :P , but I'll leave a few things I found interesting.

Notes - Episode 1
Okay, this one is the introduction, and there are many flashbacks to show how the main couple met.
📘 About the book with the long title. It's a fictional book and it's related to Artificial Intelligence since is related to Yoichi's work (the father).


Notes - Episode 2
This is my favorite episode this far, I loved the end and how Erika's character reacts.
📱 About the game! Tsuna3, this part is really explained at the end, and it's funny how they were talking about totally different things. And this time, again, the game is also fictional, but in episode 3 we can see how it looks like.

👦 About Naui senpai (senior), Kou was trying to explain how his senior's name is written in kanji, I hope this was conveyed, and Erika's character didn't know how to read it at first, well, because there are different ways to read a kanji.

💌 This was my favorite part, once I realized it. In the letter Koike's character wrote for Kou, she writes Kou's name in katakana, meaning she's not using Kou's kanji. And that's pretty reasonable since being so little Kou probably didn't know how to write his name, so, if she didn't know his name from the news, it would be a little bit difficult for her to know the right kanji because of the different ways of reading. So, that's one more detail that marks how she's not his birth-mother, even though she took care of him during his childhood.

🤒 I almost forgot about this, about the disease that both mom and dad talk at the end. Yui mentions this sort of baldness Yoichi had when their child disappeared. Some had identified it as
Alopecia areata, also known as spot baldness, is an autoimmune disease in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body... (Wikipedia)

👕 About the red jersey that was the grandma birthday gift for Kou, well, isn't this a reference to Gokusen??? Well, if you sort of make the numbers it should be Gokusen 3 ~ the one with Takaki, which I haven't watched.

Episode 3 will probably take longer, but hopefully, I'll be able to do this ... somehow. There's more about Yuto's character on the next episode. Is Yuto's character a dad??


Notes - Episode 3
🗃️ On the Declaration of disappearance or the certified death, which were the options offered to Yui-chan, I'm glad she refused those options. There are some differences between the two of them and it varies according to the country. Declaration of disappearance requires continued disappearance for one year and family court declaration after the crisis has passed. In the case of certified death, it will have an immediate effect. 🛍️ Sugamo this is where grandma was able to find the Yankumi's red jersey haha It is a neighborhood in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan. It is well known for Jizō-dōri, a popular shopping street for the older generation (the area is known as the "Harajuku of the old ladies"). (Wikipedia)

🥘 The rest is all about food, I like looking for the food ha.
First, Chirashi Sushi, I translated this as Scattered sushi, "Chirashi Sushi, or "Scattered Sushi", came on the horizon along with Maki Sushi (rolled sushi) around the 18th century. Another close translation for it is "sushi rice salad";...The ingredients (or "gu") are scattered or topped on sushi rice with no rolling or shaping involved." (Source)
Nimono "is a simmered dish in Japanese cuisine. A nimono generally consists of a base ingredient simmered in shiru stock flavored with sake, soy sauce, and a small amount of sweetening...The base ingredients for a nimono is typically a vegetable, fish, seafood, or tofu, either singly, or in combination." And of course, the Demi glace sauce and the Macaroni Salad, which were pretty easy to guess because they are shown in the episode.

Not much on this episode ne? I didn't add pictures 'cause I really don't have time for that. Just one more comment, I think translating is a really difficult and complex process, and the result is extremely personal (like sometimes I choose to translate the exact same phrase in two different ways, I do this a lot in lyrics too, btw I'm also working on a new lyrics translation). Many times, it takes me so long to be satisfied with a line, because of the pronouns or the expression, or because English is just not my first language and I struggle for it to sound natural. And many times, I just end up writing what I think is the best I can do. This is the first time for me subbing an ongoing dorama, and I'm really grateful for all the encouraging comments. So, all I ask is some respect towards other people's work. Sorry about the rambling~
I'm working on episode 4, there's so little on Yuto's character yet... I can't quite picture which is his secret yet. So, maybe a couple of days more and that will be done, I'm really busy teaching and sometimes is so frustrating! 😔 And I'm watching and enjoying a lot Taisuke's dorama 😝


Notes - Episode 4
🥝 First, about the weird song title: Kimitachi Kiwi Papaya Mango da ne (You guys are kiwi, papaya, mango.). This is a song by Nakahara Meiko from '84, so it actually existed and it even has a more recent cover.

🗿 About the Daibutsu, or 'giant Buddha' is the Japanese term, often used informally, for large statues of Buddha. And the one in Nara, as the grandma points out is sitting.

🍜 About the different types of ramen, well, I tried to put the names you could find around the Internet...here is a page with some of them well explained... This all googling for ramen made me crave for it lol

💿 And I found it pretty funny how they changed the name of the group to TWO OK ROCK, haha, and they mentioned this many times

👮 And almost at the end, this woman, Sanae, uses this term when talking to Asako, 'shaba', which means the free world (outside of prison) and is known to be used among the yakuza.

🍱 And finally, the notes on the bento, in Kou's case I didn't know how to put this, so I abbreviated as thx, but what he wrote, 'GOCHI' which is the abbreviation of ご馳走様でした, which is usually translated as 'That was a delicious meal' and is said after meals. Mayu's note was a cute short form too.

🎶 I was forgetting about the song!! The ending song, I did my try and translated the part that we get to listen at the end of each episode. Of course, I couldn't use the official lyrics, since the release date is in on the 31st, I think. I really like the song, I've read that it sort of reflects Yui-chan's feelings as a mother... but maybe it could be applied to all the moms in the dorama.

And I think that was it. This time I took my time, I hope you're enjoying the dorama as much as I do. I really like Erika's character, but I can't stop feeling pity for Koike's character... And Yuto's part was cute, he really is an ikemen, I like he gets to laugh a little in this episode XD. I want to see what happens next 😀

Notes - Episode 5
I'm really sorry! exams were on my way all week, not mine but my students', so at last, I managed to finish this. :D Notes later
🐟 First, this is about the phrase that the Professor uses to explain women. The literal translation would be 'You don't feed the fish you caught.' so it has it equivalent in the English is more or less the one I used (why by the cow when you can get the milk for free?). "...there is a hidden idea behind it as they are not talking about fish. This is a common cliche in Japan in terms of man-woman relationship. When they use this (by male, majority of the time), it means when you already got her you don't have to send her flower any more" (source)

🐷 This is about the pig in Yatterman, the anime she was watching. and it's quite a famous phrase, apparently, actually, I haven't heard of it or watched Yatterman before lol, so it caught my attention. "Odate Buta (Flattered Pig in English) is the third reoccurring gag robot in the series, making it’s debut in the 60th episode of Yatterman." (there's a full analysis on this here)

🔍 If you've ever watched any of the Arashi Android AU CMs, well, you probably know how Google is pronounced, and I find it quite funny. So, when they mentioned and even wrote the Google Maps as in 'guruguru maps' it was super funny for me and couldn't use just Google, 'cause that was not what they were saying but a slight variation. (Here's the CM in case you haven't watched them - with guguru)

🍜 This time they add udon to the ramen talk, and that was so cute. Udon is a type of thick wheat flour noodle of Japanese cuisine. (Wikipedia)

🍡 More food, this is what Asako and Sanae were eating, "Daifuku (literally "great luck"), is a Japanese confection consisting of a small round mochi (glutinous rice cake) stuffed with sweet filling, most commonly anko, sweetened red bean paste made from azuki beans." (Wikipedia again)

🎤 this is about the song Kotone-chan was singing in the karaoke, I put the little part of the lyrics from this page, the song is called Roppongi Shinjuu ~ 六本木心中; Roppongi Lovers Suicide.

I think that's all, this is an episode full of crazy coincidences, but overall it was sweet how Kino-san can relate almost like a friend to the kids, even though he's reporting everything all the time; and I also noticed how tall Nau-senpai is, almost as Yuto. Either way, this was cute. Next episode really ends in a terrible cliffhanger.

Surprisingly, I don't have any notes on this episode... except that I used the word mother like more than ever before! So, here, instead of blabbing have a couple of cute pics from Internet





Notes - Episode 7
So sorry for the delay, there's a lot of things going on, and my students are driving me crazy and literally pushing me to the limits... but, talking about this episode, this was quite intense and allowed the main actresses to show their abilities - and they push you to take sides, sort of- either way, most of today's notes are about food, some are pretty known though.

🐟 Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy consisting of very fresh raw meat or fish sliced into thin pieces. (Wikipedia)

🍙 O-nigiri, or rice ball, is a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylindrical shapes and often wrapped in nori (seaweed). 🍛 Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "how you like" or "what you like", and yaki meaning "grill". (Wikipedia) The last bit is the reason why they (Yui and Risako) asked from which part of the country Asako is.

👪 Honne and tatemae, this is something mentioned by Asako-san
Honne and tatemae are Japanese words that describing the contrast between a person's true feelings and desires (Honne) and the behavior and opinions one displays in public (Tatemae), literally "façade").
Some analysts see honne and tatemae as a cultural necessity resulting from a large number of people living in a comparatively small island nation. Close-knit co-operation and the avoidance of conflict are considered to be of vital importance in everyday life. 🐔 This is about the chicken race that Kino-san mentions, he refers to 'playing chicken' or the 'chicken game'.
The game of chicken, also known as the hawk-dove game or snowdrift game,...The name "chicken" has its origins in a game in which two drivers drive towards each other on a collision course: one must swerve, or both may die in the crash, but if one driver swerves and the other does not, the one who swerved will be called a "chicken", meaning a coward; this terminology is most prevalent in political science and economics. And I vaguely remember translating wrong the boy's last name, the one in Kino-san's past, but I'm really bad at reading names, at least Yoichi also got it wrong at first... 😏
Well, one scene was pretty strong and sad, but I had this unrelated afterthought, Yuto was such a cuter little boy * Nobuta thoughts *__* plus KamexPi dorama going on *, that young Kino is just not making justice to the past lol.
Next episode is not this intense, and I'm starting to like how the two main moms interact with each other. I'll try not taking so much time for next episode 🙏 let's hope this week is not that terrible... between students, courses to get points and work I feel so 😓 All I want to do is relax~


Notes - Episode 8
Okay, I failed and this was late, gomen 🙇 It is almost ending! I don't know whether to feel sad or relieve 😅 This episode has a few minutes added, so that could count as an excuse, he he. And I have only a few notes on this. And about this episode, Kino-kun's story gets some sort of closure, and this is really unrelated but Yuto looks so handsome, I ended up liking his always-present character! and laughed a lot at his appearance at the next episode, he's such a cutie. Either way, I'll stop rambling..

🎤 A Night at 15, the song that Kou's grandma uses to describe Kotone-chan's story, well, I couldn't find it online, maybe they changed the lyrics, I'm not sure, either way I kept bumping with this song which has a similar theme... well, this is such a useless note LOL

🎒 The backpack, okay, this is not in the subs because I rephrased it, but it's near the end, when the parents are talking about Kou, and Yui says that a short time ago Kou was using a randoseru, not that she witnessed that but that's the backpack kids used in elementary school.
A randoseru is a firm-sided backpack made of stitched firm leather or leather-like synthetic material, most commonly used in Japan by elementary schoolchildren. Traditionally it is given to a child upon beginning his or her first year of school, whereupon the child uses the same bag until grade 6. The term is a borrowed word from the Dutch "ransel" meaning "backpack", a clue to its origins nearly 200 years ago as used in the Netherlands. (Wikipedia)

And that's it. There's only two episodes left, next one also has a couple of extra minutes and it's super cute. I think this dorama will end in a pretty cute and predictable way, but I've come to like the characters, especially the moms, I'm glad this is the dorama I picked to translate 😁, but I'll leave my whole rambling to the end, or another post...Thanks for the company through this 🙏


Notes - Episode 9
Well, episode 9!, so close to the end, I have a few notes to leave here:

🏫 First, this is silly, but I wanted to put it here since I find it interesting to compare with my country.
Junior high school: Lower-secondary schools cover grades seven, eight, and nine. Ages are roughly thirteen to fifteen with increased focus on academic studies.
Senior high schools: mostly cover grades ten through twelve. To enter, students must take an entrance examination in Japanese, mathematics, science, social studies, and English. (Source Wikipedia)

👱 This is about Momo-chan, and when she explains the reason why she was bullied at elementary school, she says that she was a "Kikokushijo"
Kikokushijo ("repatriate children") is a Japanese-language term referring to the children of Japanese expatriates who take part of their education outside of Japan. It is used to refer to children who have returned to Japan. (More on this)

👦 This one is pretty meaningless too, but it called my attention how when Kou is telling his parents about Momo-chan he doesn't even once refer to her with her name, he always use this term as the 'other person'. I thought it was cute, since he's just a silly teenager ☺

🏨 This is about the place where Kadokura-san goes to work, I translated it as inn, 'cause it was short and easier, but it actually refers to a ryokan
A ryokan is a type of traditional Japanese inn that existed since 7 A.D ...They typically feature tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata and talk with the owner. (Wikipedia)

Well, I intended to finish the last two episodes closer to each other, but rl got in the way and I couldn't, either way, there was not much suspense between this and the last one.


Notes - Episode 10
This last episode can be described in one word: CUTE. I found many parts so cute that I'll name them because...I can... LOL. But first the notes on this one.

🤰 👶 This one is about the part when Yui and Yoichi are talking and he refers to the time Yui had Kou inside of her as in
"とつきとおか十月十日" this term more than referring to a specific amount of time, it means the normal gestation time (i.e. 9 months). So, when they said 10 months, I think they were actually talking in general terms as the normal period of time, so sorry if I didn't pointed out earlier, gomen.

😥 This part is from the last bit with the 3 of them, meaning Kino, Nau and Kou, and the kids use this word
fukushu (復讐) - meaning revenge
but as Kino-kun doesn't want to believe they're talking about revenge, so he asks whether they mean its homonym
fukushu (習復習) - meaning review; revision
I don't like to put these notes on the subs, so I went with a different interpretation, but this was the actual thing.

🍲 Now, this is about food, and the pun Yui uses during Kou's outbreak, and I did leave some notes on the subtitles, because I didn't know how else to explain it, hope it makes sense, it's a pun on the first part of the word of this dish and the verb 'to win'.
Katsudon: is a popular Japanese food, a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork cutlet, egg, vegetables, and condiments. The dish takes its name from the Japanese words tonkatsu (for pork cutlet) and donburi (for rice bowl dish). (Wikipedia)

👩 And the last one, this is about the part in which Yui and Asako talk about the kind of job she did on the inn (ryokan). And I couldn't figure it out how to translate this, because it's a pretty Japanese-intrinsic concept, she says she works as a 'urakata', which literally means a "backside person". Someone working behind-the-scenes.
And this made me remember to, once again, an Arashi MC, in which they explained a little, the work of those behind-the-scene people, meaning those people that prepare everything for you to feel comfortable as a guest but you don't get to see them. And I loved it so much, the CM I mean, that here it is if you want to you should watch it.

And that was it! I finally ended this... it was long but quite satisfying and like with my previous works it made me want to leave everything else and take care of this... lol, I'm such a weird person. So, just because these notes are already pretty endless, I'll add more, 'cause it's my LJ, and I like to write a lot hahaha.
Fave moments from episode 10:
- When Yui and Yoichi talk about those times when Kou was a baby. This was so super cute! aka the poop scene lol Yoichi speaks as such a loving husband and I loved it 😍
- The scene when Mayu and her mom reconcile with each other and Mayu cries like a little child. This and the sweet way Risako talks about her expectations as a mother were so sweet 💓
- The family meetings in the last two episodes, these meetings were so pure cuteness. I loved these parts and especially Kino-san in them. Kino-san is like a constant presence lol, I thought that Yuto wouldn't be around as much in the later episodes, but he's always there, and it's so funny 😉
- Kino-san with the two kids, these 3 were super cute! Yuto looks so handsome!
- Finally Yui and Asako's last talk. Although it leaves many unanswered questions, this one was cute because of the good acting and the fact that the two of them are able to portray some level of sincerity, at least for me. I couldn't help but thinking about the situations from each of them. And also Kou's relationship with both of them, because even though it's different, is cute in both cases.
- Overall, 'cause why not. Michieda Shunsuke is such a cute kansai junior, I really hope to see him again in any acting role, he still has much to learn but he did a pretty decent job here, considering he's 15! and I'm pretty biased because Michi was a total cutie.

Lame facts:
- I hate putting these little floating notes on different random words such as the ones in chat messages, letters, building names and so on. And! to my despair there were always there in each episode, so I'm sorry if there were many missing but I did my best considering how much I hate doing that. lol
- During the 10 episodes I kept copying their family name, 'cause Kashiwazaki was too hard for me LOL.
- I know this is because I'm such a softy but this was like Aya surviving her horrible disease and marrying her doctor, wasn't it? LOL, sorry! Their child is such a cutie
- I enjoyed a lot Kino's character, even though is so far-fetched and crazy, I can't imagine someone so devoted to his job.
- I absolutely love how Japanese people love to put endless names to the episodes, I'll copy them here some time later DONE!, 'cause they are like my notes 😅
- Finally, I'll make a post with the complete lyrics for the song, since I had to translate it entirely for the last episode, I hope the lyrics weren't that distracting.
