A/N: I was in the car and we were passing by a farm and this story hit me! So yeah, enjoy!

Cho Kyuhyun has probably visited his grandparents' farm so many times, but not once-until now- did he see someone living at the vacant ranch across theirs.

Out of curiosity, Kyuhyun decided to check it out.

"Love Ranch," he read.

Cheesy, he thought.

The moment he turned around, someone called out for him. He quickly turned around and saw a short boy, with a really nice haircut and who's probably the same age as he is, waving and smiling at him.

Kyuhyun wasn't sure if he wanted to wave back or continue walking back to his grandparents' house. In the end, he just waved back.

"You live near here?" the guy asked. Kyuhyun shook his head.

"No, I live in the city. I'm visiting my grandparents."

"Oh," the boy replied with a hint of disappointment in his tone.

"You live at this ranch?" The boy nodded. "I never saw you here. I come here every summer."

"That's cause we moved here during the winter." Kyuhyun nodded and had turned around once again, making his way back to his grandparents' house. Apparently, the guy asked him to stop again.

"What's your named?" he called out.

"Kyuhyun. Cho Kyuhyun."

The guy flashed him the most adorable smile he's ever seen in his entire life. "I'm Sungmin. Lee Sungmin."

All Kyuhyun could think about was the word "adorable." Everything about Lee Sungmin is adorable. He can't wait to see him again tomorrow.

"Hey Kyuhyun!" Sungmin yelled across the street when he saw Kyuhyun watering the flowers. Kyuhyun waved, flashing Sungmin a smile before turning off the hose.

Kyuhyun made his way to Sungmin's ranch, and stopped when he reached the gate.

"What's up?" he asked.

"Wanna meet our animals?" Sungmin enthusiastically asked.

"Are you kidding me? Of course! My grandparents only have a couple of chickens, two cows, a dog, a cat, and a horse," Kyuhyun replied back, using the same enthusiastic tone Sungmin had.

"Alright then!" Sungmin said, opening the gate and leading Kyuhyun to the chicken coop.

There were probably about 10 chickens in the coop. Two roosters were running around the coop. Sungmin picked up one chicken and shoved it in Kyuhyun's hands. Kyuhyun is a city boy so he was a bit disgusted when Sungmin had put the chicken in his hands.

"That's Martha," Sungmin said, introducing the chicken that was in Kyuhyun's hands.

"Martha? Out of all the names in this world, you called this chicken Martha?" Kyuhyun asked confusedly. Sungmin nodded, then laughed.

Wow, even his laugh is adorable, Kyuhyun thought.

"I named her when I was 6, okay? Don't blame my 6 year-old self!" Sungmin retorted. They both laughed, then Kyuhyun put the chicken down.

Next, Sungmin showed Kyuhyun the stable. There were 5 horses; all eating hay. Sungmin took two carrots out of a bucket and handed one to Kyuhyun.

"Go ahead, feed one," Sungmin instructed. Kyuhyun decided that he was gonna feed the white horse all the way at the end of the stable. "That's Macy."

"You named it when you were 6 years-old too?" Kyuhyun skeptically asked. Sungmin's mouth widened in shock.

"No! We just got that horse two years ago! How dare you?!" Sungmin shouted, chasing Kyuhyun around the stable with a half-eaten carrot in both of their hands.

"Okay I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Kyuhyun said, earning a flirtatious push from Sungmin. Kyuhyun tossed what's left of the carrot in Macy's stall and Sungmin tossed his in a stall with a horse named Macky.

While walking towards the cows' barn, Kyuhyun nudged Sungmin.

"Maybe we could ride horses together one day. I'll bring one of my horses here since your ranch is bigger than my grandparents,'" Kyuhyun suggested. Sungmin couldn't help but show how happy he was, but then he just nodded in excitement.

"We've got all summer. And the summer after that?" Sungmin asked unsurely, but Kyuhyun nodded. "And the summer after that. And the summer after that."

Kyuhyun didn't know what has gotten into him, but he decided he wanted to hold Sungmin's hand. That, he did.

~

Summer passed by so quickly. Soon, Kyuhyun would have to leave for the city.

No worries, they made the summer worthwhile.

They found this hill when they went horseback riding and they'd spent most of their times there. Sungmin's mom would always bring them food and would always tell them that their 'dating place' is getting a little boring, which Sungmin and Kyuhyun laughed at knowing they're not dating and there's nothing boring about the hill.

The night before Kyuhyun was going to leave, he threw rocks at Sungmin's bedroom window in the middle of the night when everyone else is sleeping and the creatures of the night were all out.

Sungmin had woken up and they made their way to the hill; both of them in their pajamas.

Not once did they look at each other; knowing they'll be separated for 10 months.

"It's only 10 months," Kyuhyun stated. Sungmin chuckled, still not looking at the latter.

"Yeah," he sighed. "10 long months," emphasizing on the word 'long.'

This time, Kyuhyun turned to face Sungmin who was still staring at the horizon.

"But you'll wait right?" With that, Sungmin turned to face him too.

They stared at each other for quite a long time before he responded. "I will."

And that was it. Next thing Sungmin knew, Kyuhyun's lips was on his.

Sungmin brought his hands up to Kyuhyun's neck; deepening the kiss. Their first kiss. Their first kiss that's filled with love. Love that only they feel for each other.

~

The truth is, it's been three years since Kyuhyun hasn't returned back to the country side.

They had been writing letters and calling each other ever since Kyuhyun left, but that all stopped in about 5 months.

Sungmin is going into college now. He graduated yesterday and he got a scholarship to go the city to study Nursing.

There's less than a week before Sungmin sets off to the city.

Sungmin unconsciously walked near Kyuhyun's grandparents' gate and admired the beautiful flowers that bloomed early that year.

Sungmin snapped back to his senses when he heard an old lady's voice calling out his name. He smiled, knowing it was Kyuhyun's grandma.

"Hi Grandma Cho," he greeted.

"Hi darling," she replied.

"Say, Grandma Cho, how's Kyuhyun? That bastard hasn't been sending me letters nor calling me for the past three years." Sungmin noticed that the cheerfulness in Grandma Cho's face disappeared.

"Oh sweetie." Grandma Cho opened the gate to her farm and embraced Sungmin so tight that he couldn't even breathe. Grandma Cho pulled away, tears trickling from her eyes.

"Grandma Cho, what's wrong?" Sungmin asked. He regretted it. Sungmin regretted ever asking. He fell to the floor in disbelief.

Cho Kyuhyun, the guy he loves, died from cancer one and a half year ago.

Cho Kyuhyun, the guy who promised he will come back, died from cancer one and a half year ago.

Cho Kyuhyun, the guy who doesn't like his animals' names, died from cancer one and a half year ago.

Cho Kyuhyun, the guy who he shared his first kiss with, died from cancer one and a half year ago.

Cho Kyuhyun, the guy who became Lee Sungmin's life, died from cancer one and a half year ago.

This sad reality is slowly blending into one massive heartache. A sad reality indeed.

Sungmin is probably never gonna be able to forget this. Truly, in life, you lose people you love. Sungmin just didn't expect it will be so soon.

The saying is true then, if you find someone that makes you happy, don't let him/her go.
